Under the Canopy of Tropical Encounters
Saturday, May 31, 2025 | 9:00 AM–10:00 AM
First opened in 2007, Tropical Encounters brings together elusive animals and lush plants in a tropical environment modeled on a South American forest. Como’s indoor rainforest habitat showcases the partnership between the Zoo and Conservatory, with zookeepers and horticulturists working together for ecologically balanced plant and animal care.
Como Friends invites members and donors to join us on Saturday, May 31 from 9:00 to 10:00 am for this Special Access Event for Como Friends supporters where you’ll get to know the flora and fauna of Tropical Encounters.
- Spot the amazing animal species. From the unique fish swimming in the pool, to the colorful birds perched in the canopy, to the most famous resident, Chloe the sloth, Como Zoo’s keepers will give you the inside scoop.
- Discover symbiotic plant life—like the epiphytes that grow on other plants instead of in the soil—with a Marjorie McNeely Conservatory horticulturist.
- Learn fun facts with Como’s educators at their learning stations.
- Shop at Garden Safari Gifts during and after the event!
